THE FLESH-EATING BLOOM

Through „The Flesh-Eating Bloom”, Zsolt Berszán continues his profound artistic and aesthetic investigations into the limits of matter, dissolving the boundaries between the organic and the inorganic. Set within the historical space of the former steam bath in Baden-Baden—a place symbolically defined by the presence of central thermal springs—his artistic intervention establishes a direct dialogue between the memory of water and the radical materiality of contemporary art.
The curatorial concept revolves around an „unconventional genesis”. Berszán explores the ontological potential of purely industrial materials, such as silicone and bitumen, which he recharges with a biological pulse. This „devouring bloom” is not a metaphor for decomposition, but rather a manifestation of a raw vital force that transcends known forms. The artist orchestrates a brutal yet sublime encounter between biological immanence and transfigured inorganic matter, completely moving beyond the limitations of classical anatomy.
The exhibition takes shape around three extensive series of works:
Unknown Plant (2026): A series of sculptures made of metallic structures and silicone that expand into space like neural networks or vascular systems. Inspired by Julia Kristeva's theory of the „abject”, these hybrid entities capture an intermediate stage between subject and object, witnessing a post-biological evolution.

Carnivorous Plant in the Field (2025-2026): The investigation continues on a two-dimensional plane through painting and drawing in graphite and oil on canvas. Here, the pictorial gesture becomes an incision, and the dense layers of pigment create a topography of anxiety where flesh and petals fuse.
Untitled (2014-2017): The climax of the exhibition's discourse, where bitumen, water, and silicone materialize a true archaeology of fluids, fixing the ephemerality of life into a perennial form.

Furthermore, the artist's site-specific installation titled "The Flesh of Silence," which is presented as part of this tour, is part of the group exhibition "Scultura 2026" organized by the GFjK (Society of Friends of Young Art).
On the occasion of the opening, the artist will also launch a limited edition of silk handkerchiefs (nine pieces), featuring prints specially created after the exhibited works.
